The rendering
of Military Funeral Honors is a way to show the Nation's deep gratitude to
those that have faithfully defended our country in times of war and peace.
This ceremonial paying of respect is the final demonstration a grateful nation
can provide to a veteran's family.
Who is
eligible for Military Funeral Honors? Military members on active duty or in
the Selected Reserve, former military members who served on active duty and
departed under conditions other than dishonorable, former military
members who completed at least one term of enlistment or period of initial
obligated service in the Selected Reserve and departed under conditions other
than dishonorable, former military members discharged from the Selected
Reserve due to a disability incurred or aggravated in the line of duty.
Funeral
Honors are performed at no charge to the family by the military. If you would
like Military Honors at a funeral, you can request them through your funeral
home, or you can call the national request line (1-877-645-4667) or contact
the Alabama National Guard Coordinator listed below.
Upon
receiving a request for honors, the military will at a minimum provide a three
person detail for the ceremonial folding and presentation of the American flag
and the sounding of "Taps."
